Capacity-building and training

Social and conflict dynamics are constantly changing. Gender Associations supports ongoing transformative training and capacity development for a variety of institutions on gender and diversity issues. For example, we offer tailor-made trainings for State and non-State actors to develop knowledge and skills to include a gender and diversity perspective in peace support operations, security sector activities and peacebuilding and conflict prevention. We develop gender, peace and security training manuals and tools and deliver needs-based capacity-building programmes and trainings through interactive methodologies and audio-visual materials to support virtual and face-to-face learning experiences

Gender-responsive budgeting in Mongolia

2019 - Mongolia

In 2019, Gender Associations was contracted by the GiZ to support their work in the Municipality of Ulaanbaatar City, Mongolia on gender-responsive budgeting at the local level with a focus on education. The project included conducting a comprehensive institutional and capacity assessment and then building capacities towards gender-responsive budgeting at the local level through workshops and the production of a practical handbook.

OSCE Training of Trainers on Gender Equality and Comprehensive Security

The resulting “OSCE Training on Gender Equality and Comprehensive Security” includes 12 training modules with accompanying training materials, exercises, infographics and a facilitator’s guide. The Training embraces a feminist pedagogical approach, adult learning principles and builds on OSCE training materials and publications in order to contribute to transformative change.

Gender Equality and Women, Peace and Security Training

2019 - Canada

Gender Associations collaborated with the WPS Group in 2019 to conduct a three-day training on advancing gender equality and implementing the Women, Peace and Security Agenda in peace and security missions. The course aimed to deepen practitioners’ understanding of gender equality concepts and provide them with the tools to implement the WPS agenda in both conflict and post-conflict contexts. The course used an adult learning methodology and was targeted towards civilian, police and military personnel.

Building resilience for women peacebuilders

2020 - Zimbabwe

Thanks to the Women Mediators Across the Commonwealth’s (WMC) Strategic Mediation Fund, administered by the WMC Secretariat, Conciliation Resources and funded by the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, one of our Lead Associates, Dudziro Nhengu, a skilled woman mediator from Zimbabwe, was able to provide training, knowledge and skills-building for local women peace advocates in various provinces of Zimbabwe. This initiative enabled local women to support their communities to mitigate community conflicts, especially those related to gender-based violence and trauma emanating from the negative effects of COVID-19. This was achieved through the launching of Community Peace Advocates groups; the delivery of trainings on using modern technologies for peacebuilding purposes; and trainings on the linkages between peacebuilding, mediation trauma, resilience, wellness and effectiveness.
