GENDER-RESPONSIVE BUDGETING IN MONGOLIA

In Mongolia, we are collaborating with the German Development Cooperation Agency (GiZ) on a project to implement gender-responsive budgeting at the local level with a focus on education.

Investing in education means investing in the future. How equal and fair these investments look like can be determined through an intersectional gender lens. We believe that gender budgeting especially in the education sector improves the efficiency of public spending but most importantly contributes to more just and fair societies.

The German Development Cooperation Agency (GiZ) in Mongolia supports the Municipality of Ulaanbaatar City to include a gender perspective in local budgeting processes, decision making and spending. This builds also on the efforts by the MERIT project funded by Global Affairs Canada in gender mainstreaming and building local capacities on gender budgeting at the provincial level.

Through an international expert on gender and a national expert on budget, we support these efforts in a complementary fashion. Based on a comprehensive assessment, we aim at building capacities towards gender responsive budgeting at local level in the Municipality of Ulaanbaatar City through workshops and a practical handbook.
