THE IMPORTANCE OF WOMEN’S ORGANISATIONS TO THE DEFENSE OF DEMOCRATIC STRUCTURES AND VALUES IN LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN

New report: The Women's Movement in Latin America - Strengths, needs and opportunities for effective feminist advocacy (OAS CIM)

Gender Associations is proud to have supported the Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM) of the Organization of American States (OAS) in the research and mapping of women’s organisations in the region to contribute to the recently published report: “El movimiento de mujeres en America Latina: Fortalezas, necesidades y oportunidades para la incidencia feminista efectiva”.

This timely report examines the ways in which women’s and feminist civil society organisations across Latin America and the Caribbean contribute towards defending democratic values, promoting rights-based governance and driving systemic change from the grassroots level.

At a time when civic space is shrinking and democracies are weakening, this mapping offers critical insight into the strength, diversity and impact of feminist organizing in the region. The report not only highlights key trends and challenges, but also documents the resilience and innovation of movements that are often excluded from mainstream policy debates.

We are deeply grateful to the team at OAS-CIM for their leadership and collaboration and to all the organisations whose work and voices informed this publication.
